After defending his UFC lightweight championship title in October 2020 against Justin Gaethje, the Russian mixed martial arts fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov announced his retirement from UFC.
Although UFC president Dana White had hopes that the lightweight champion would still fight, White himself recently confirmed the retirement in a Twitter post. “He is 100 officially retired”, the tweet said.
After losing his father and coach in July 2020, Nurmagomedov leaves a career of 29 victories and 0 defeats. It is known that his father’s death, along with a promise to his mother, were factors that made Khabib take his decision.
